Saab gave the 9-3 one of the quirkiest factory cupholders, hidden on the underside of the centre console lid. Unfortunately, they seemingly forgot that sometimes you might want to put an actual drink in the car, especially while driving.

This replacement centre console lid solves that with a proper, deep cupholder designed around the drinks you're actually likely to have in the car, whether that's a small coffee can, normal 330ml can or a large Maccies takeaway cup.

Is it perfectly positioned? As best as we could manage with Saab’s rather limiting centre console layout. Will it occasionally get in the way and mildly irritate you? Yes. But that's still considerably better than holding your drink between your legs.

OVERVIEW

Direct replacement for the factory Saab 9-3 OG centre console storage lid, replacing it with a single, properly supported cupholder.

The stepped internal profile provides three different diameters, allowing smaller cans to sit securely while retaining enough width and depth for considerably larger takeaway cups.

DESIGN

FITMENT

• Confirmed and tested on RHD vehicles
• LHD fitment has not currently been physically verified by SCHURKEE. LHD owners should check their centre console/lid arrangement against the RHD version before purchasing

INSTALLATION

The factory centre console lid is retained by two small prongs towards the rear of the console, which locate into holes on either side of the lid.

• Carefully wiggle the OEM lid free from the two factory locating prongs
• Position the SCHURKEE cupholder over the same factory prongs
• Gently fit each side into position until both prongs are located within the mounting holes
• No permanent modification to the centre console is required

The rear mounting sections of the SCHURKEE cupholder are intentionally angled slightly outwards. The original Saab lid has enough flexibility to bend around the locating prongs during installation, whereas common 3D printing materials such as PETG, ABS and ASA are considerably less forgiving.

The slightly wider mounting position reduces the amount the printed part needs to flex during installation and helps prevent cracking around the mounting holes. As a result, a small amount of clearance may be visible around this area once fitted. If you are aiming for an absolutely gap-free fit, bear this in mind before printing or finishing the part.

FUNCTION

• Replaces the factory centre console storage lid and its underside cupholder
• Provides a considerably deeper and more supportive cupholder
• Stepped 52mm, 66mm and 73mm internal diameters accommodate different drink sizes
• Suitable for small coffee cans, standard 330ml cans, takeaway coffee cups, large McDonald's/Starbucks takeaway cups and similarly sized drinks
• Oversized containers such as 1L water bottles and Stanley-style cups will likely not fit

PRINTING

• PETG, ABS or ASA recommended
• PLA can be used and has been successfully tested, however it is not recommended for long-term use
• PLA versions have shown dimensional shrinkage/deformation after being exposed to high temperatures inside the vehicle
• Post-processing is likely to be required depending on print quality, settings and the desired final finish
