Description
FC3S Rear Bumper Development 3D Scan
Source vehicle
1989 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II Coupe — Series 5 (Japanese import)
This dataset contains rear exterior geometry captured from a Japanese-market 1989 Turbo II FC3S. The scan was produced as a reference dataset for designers and manufacturers developing rear bumper components or rear aero parts for the FC platform.
The dataset provides usable surface reference around the rear bumper area while also supplying a second processed file with the bumper removed to allow clearer access to the underlying body surfaces.
Dataset overview
The dataset includes two STL files.
Rear section — bumper installed
A scan of the vehicle with the rear bumper fitted. This allows designers to reference the bumper’s geometry relative to the surrounding rear quarter panels and tail light area.
Rear section — bumper removed (post-processed)
The same scan with the rear bumper digitally removed during post-processing. This version allows clearer access to the body surfaces behind the bumper for designers developing their own bumper concepts.
Both files are aligned to the XYZ axis, allowing immediate use in CAD software environments.
Vehicle configuration
The vehicle was not fully stock at the time of scanning.
It was fitted with a BN Sports rear bumper, which appears in the scan exactly as it existed on the vehicle.
This dataset is not intended to represent or reproduce the BN Sports product, but simply reflects the configuration of the vehicle when the scan was captured.
Data specifications
Mesh density
Rear section with bumper installed
Approximately 2 million polygons
Rear section with bumper removed
Approximately 650,000 polygons
Dimensional resolution
Approximately ±0.5 mm
File format
STL mesh
Model orientation
The dataset is aligned to the XYZ coordinate system, allowing direct import into CAD software such as Fusion 360 and other engineering environments.
Scan coverage
The dataset includes:
-
Rear bumper area
-
Adjacent rear quarter panel surfaces
-
Tail light area
-
Surrounding rear body geometry
The scan does not include mounting points, bolt holes, or rear structural components behind the bumper.
Mesh condition
The mesh has been cleaned to remove most scanning artefacts while preserving the original captured surface geometry.
Some areas may display minor surface noise caused by scan overlap or lighting variation during capture. These areas are cosmetic and do not affect the dataset when used as reference geometry.
The surface has not been artificially smoothed, maintaining the original captured form.
Typical applications
This dataset is intended for workflows such as:
• Development of custom rear bumpers
• Designing diffusers or rear aero components
• Creating aftermarket parts that follow the FC3S rear body lines
• Independent designers or small aero brands developing FC3S products
• Companies designing aftermarket exterior components
File delivery
After purchase, a download link will be sent via email providing access to the dataset.
The download link is single-use and can only be downloaded once, which helps reduce the risk of files being redistributed.
If the original purchaser loses their copy of the files, they may request a replacement download link at any time.
Usage conditions
The purchaser may use the dataset for internal design work and commercial product development.
However:
• The scan files themselves cannot be redistributed
• The dataset may not be resold, shared, or transferred
• Any portion of the scan data may not be published or redistributed
Products developed using this dataset may be manufactured and sold.
